Awards Banquet to Honor Area Disability Community
Joplin, MO
Area agencies serving individuals with developmental disabilities are partnering to host the 2011 Southwest Missouri Developmental Disabilities banquet, to be held on Tuesday October 18, at the Holiday Inn ballroom in Joplin. The goal of this event is to recognize achievements of individuals, advocates, and agencies in the Developmental Disabilities field over the past year.
Representatives from Targeted Case Management service providers in the Southwest Missouri region received nominations for awards in four categories, including:
Exceptional Individual
Exceptional Family Member
Outstanding Staff
Innovative Agency/Program
Missouri State Representative Jeff Grisamore (R, District 47) will serve as keynote speaker for the event. Representative Grisamore, along with committee members of the House Special Committee on Disability Services, is responsible for the recent passage of Omnibus House Bill 555. This historic legislation, known as the “Missouri MVP Act”, establishes October as Disability History and Awareness month in Missouri K-12 public schools, and makes substantial improvements to the disability language allowed in state laws. Representative Grisamore was quoted as saying “This legislation represents a historic and unprecedented advancement for the disabilities community in Missouri”.
The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m.
Dinner, keynote speaker remarks, and an awards ceremony will follow, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
